## At a glance

| | BetterFileTransfer | Tresorit Send |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Send without an account | Yes, up to 100 MB | Yes |
| Free transfer size | 1 GB | 5 GB |
| Free link lifetime | Up to 30 days | 7 days |
| End-to-end encrypted | Yes. End to end, on by default, sealed in your browser before upload | Yes. End to end; the key travels in the link |
| Cheapest paid plan | $10 / month, or $100 / year | Free; sold alongside Tresorit storage |
| Paid transfer size | 10 GB | Not confirmed |
| Storage included | 10 GB free, 1 TB on Pro | None; transfers only |

Most of this page is a comparison between end-to-end encryption and the ordinary kind. Tresorit Send is the page where that argument does not apply, because they do it properly and have done for years.

Their own description of the mechanism: the unique download link contains the decryption key, which is never stored on Tresorit's servers. That is the same architecture used here, arrived at independently, and it is the correct one.

## What Tresorit Send does well

5 GB free with no registration, seven days on a link, no advertising, and real client-side encryption underneath it. Tresorit is a Swiss-headquartered company with a long security record and the audits to go with it, which matters if you have to justify a tool to somebody rather than just use it.

One practical note that trips people up: Send lives at send.tresorit.com. The old marketing URL returns a 404, which is why several round-up articles list it as discontinued. It is not.

## Where the two differ

Less than anywhere else on this page, so the differences are in the details rather than the design:

- **The clock.** Seven days there. Here, a day or a week anonymously, up to thirty on a free account, and never on Pro. If a link needs to outlive a week, that is the gap.
- **Free size.** 5 GB free against our 100 MB anonymous and 1 GB with an account. Tresorit wins this outright.
- **The key, and who chooses it.** Here you can type your own secret instead of taking the generated one, and hand it over separately so the link carries nothing at all. That matters when the link itself might be forwarded or logged.
- **Sealed filenames.** On an encrypted transfer here, the filenames are sealed too, so the share page cannot reveal that you sent _settlement-final-v4.pdf_.
- **What happens after.** An account here gives you a dashboard: download counts, delivery and open receipts on links we mailed, and revoking a live link in one click.

## The encryption question

Both hold sealed bytes and neither holds the key. Both mean it. Both share the same unavoidable cost: lose the key and the files are unrecoverable, because there is nobody with a copy.

If you want to understand why so few services on this page can say that sentence, [the mechanism is worth ten minutes](https://betterfiletransfer.com/blog/end-to-end-encryption-explained). Tresorit and this service are the two here that pass.

## What it costs

Send itself is free, and sits alongside Tresorit's paid storage and collaboration products rather than being sold separately. We could not confirm a per-tier limit for Send on a paid Tresorit subscription, so the table says so rather than guessing.

## Which one to use

Honestly: if you need one 5 GB encrypted send this week and nothing else, use Tresorit Send. It is free, it is correct, and there is nothing to sign up for. Come here when you want longer-lived links, your own chosen key, sealed filenames, or a record of who actually downloaded what.

## When Tresorit Send is the better choice

Tresorit Send is the better choice for a one-off encrypted transfer up to 5 GB. It is free, it needs no account, the encryption is the real thing, and it comes from a company with a longer security record than ours. If that is the whole job, there is no argument for paying anybody, including us.
